Licence is a District Wildlife Biologist for the State of Washington covering San Juan, Island and Snohomish counties. After studying Animal Physiology and Behavior at Arizona State University, Kurt’s nearly 15 year career in wildlife management has taken him across the western states of the United States. His journey started with a ten year stint as a Medical Services volunteer and later Daily Care Coordinator/Wildlife Biologist with the Phoenix, Arizona based wildlife rehabilitation center, Liberty Wildlife. Afterwards, Kurt worked as a Birds and Mammals Biologist for Arizona Game and Fish Department for 5 years focusing on management of raptors, desert, grassland, and riparian birds, as well as small mammals. He later worked as a Supervisory Fish and Wildlife Biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife in Portland for over four years, and finally landed at his current position with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife in 2022.

Learn about American White Pelicans in Washington State and the Puget Sound. Washington Department and Fish and Wildlife Biologist, Kurt Licence, will be discussing white pelican biology, status, history, management and factors that may be effecting population growth. Bring your pelican interest, curiosities and questions to this one hour presentation, beginning at 7:30. This is a hybrid meeting.

The program is preceded by a business meeting to elect a president and vice president to the 2024-2025 Board of Directors of the Whidbey Audubon Society.
