Big White Birds and more …
Join us for an off-Island adventure that’s always a hit.
Over the years, at least once during each winter, Whidbey Audubon has hosted a trip to the Skagit area, where we observe Snow Geese, Swans, Eagles, Rough-legged Hawks and Short-eared Owls, among many other exciting bird species. This is the time of year and an area where, if an observer is very fortunate, it is possible to spot five different falcons!
For newer birders or recent Whidbey arrivals, this trip is a helpful introduction to an area that may seem a little intimidating at first visit, but you never know what might show up, even for more experienced birders!
Due to tight space at the access to some of these sites, participation on this outing will be limited to 18 individuals plus the leaders, so please register below to secure a spot on the trip and to receive further information.
What to expect:
Birding the Skagit flats, Fir Island and points between – a full day (8a.m.-6p.m., inc. travel)
Attendees who are mindful of social expectations for health and safety.
Carpool from the meet-up sites on South, Central and North Whidbey (more info below). Carpool drivers (TBD) will need a current Discover Pass.
Pitstops as needed, but we will each be self-contained with food and drinks on the road.
It is very helpful to bring your own binoculars, though spotting scopes are provided.
Any possible weather, so prepare accordingly. Terrible conditions (TBD) will reschedule the outing.
