Birdathon 2025 Is Taking Flight!
Fellow birders now is the time to join with others in support of the scholarship fund, helping high school seniors who are pursuing environmental studies. Don’t you wish someone had turned you on to the fascinating world of birds at that age?
Birdathon is also an important annual fundraiser for our general fund to support our mission to connect people to nature through community education and conservation.
Birdathon is a friendly competition to see which team can identify the most species of birds in a 24-hour period. Modeled on the Global Big Day of Birding, which is May 10 this year, Birdathon is similar to a walk-a-thon, but instead of miles, you pledge for each bird species identified. But we give you the first two weeks of May to pick the best day for you. This event also serves as our spring bird count, adding to the longitudinal data we have been collecting.
We welcome new teams, home birders and single birders if you prefer to be on your own. If you are not able to form a team, you can directly support our scholarship fund and/or general fund by going to the Whidbey Audubon website under events/Birdathon and support the team of your choice. At the push of a virtual button, you can choose how much you want to pledge or donate, and which fund you’d like it to go to, helping a student or Whidbey Audubon.
The team that sights the most species gets the Golden Binocular Award. The Bronze Owl Bank goes to the team that raises the most money.
Thank you for joining in this fundraiser – Birdathon 2025.
